In local news, pending home sales have declined in the High Country for the fourth month in a row. According to the Watauga Democrat, all four major counties in the High Country: Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, and Avery County, recorded monthly and yearly declines in transactions, according to the National Association of Realtors.
In state news, flight attendants for American Airlines at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport picketed today over issues they have been facing. According to WBTV, other flight attendants around the country are also picketing over contract disputes. According to WBTV, the flight attendants say they’re “overworked and suffering a poor quality of life because of the delay in contract negotiations.” Signs some of the flight attendants held up had sayings such as “It’s Our Time,” “We Are Ready For A Raise,” and “Profits Over People at American Airlines.”
In national news, gas prices for the week of Thanksgiving are expected to be the highest they’ve ever been in history. According to WRAL , Gas Buddy, a tech website that calculates gas prices around the country, released a report today stating that the national average of gas is expected to be $3.68 on Thanksgiving Day, nearly 30 cents higher than last year. Despite this though, 20% more people are expected to be traveling. According to WRAL, it is expected that Wednesday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on Friday between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. will be the busiest times to drive.
