In local news, App State has announced limited hours for numerous on-campus locations for Fall Break. According to The Appalchian, Rivers Street Cafe in Roess Dining Hall will be the only on campus dining location providing food services from Oct. 15-17, however, students must have already completed a meal ticket. Majority of the dining locations will be closing early on Friday at 4 p.m. such as any other location within Roess Dining Hall. All the university recreation centers will close early Friday and remain closed during fall break. Mt. Mitchell will be open until 4 p.m. on Friday. AppalCart will be running on limited hours of operation beginning Friday. For more information about the times and routes, you can visit AppalCart’s website.


In state news, the Union County Sheriff’s Office opened a new crime lab today. According to WBTV, the lab will allow staff to conduct toxicology testing, fingerprinting and, in the future, DNA testing. Prior to this lab being built, it would take several months for Union County to receive test results. Now with the new lab, they will get results within days, thus speeding up the justice system.


In national news, a verdict has been made for Nikolas Cruz, the Parkland shooter who killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018.

According to the New York Times, the jury decided Cruz should be sentenced to life in prison with no possibilty of parole, as opposed to getting the death penalty. Many of the victims' families are disappointed by this decision, in addition to Florida governor Ron DeSantis.
