In local news, popular King Street shop Foggy Pine Books made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this weekend.


The Appalachian reported that the talk show host teamed up with star Tom Hanks to promote small businesses struggling during the pandemic - Foggy Pine was featured in a 2 minute advertisement on the show.


Owner Mary Ruthless tweeted that they are “so so grateful” for the opportunity for their business to be featured on the show.


In state news, a Durham-based company has created an at-home treatment for COVID-19 that is showing promising results in its trials.


WFAE reported that EmitBio’s treatment involves a light being directed to the back of the user’s throat twice a day for five minutes at a time. After four days, those who used the device saw nearly all of the virus eliminated.


The company has applied for Emergency Use Authorization from the Food and Drug Administration for their treatment.


In national news, former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial began today.


NPR reported that the trial, which started at 1 p.m., comes after the House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump less than one month ago for incitement of the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol that killed five people.
