In local news, The Watauga Democrat announces the Appalachian State University Forum Lecture Series is hosting LaTosha Brown on February 28th at 7pm in the Schaefer Center for Performing Arts. LaTosha Brown is the cofounder of Black Voters Matter Fund and is nationally recognized expert in Black Voting Rights and Voter Suppression. The event is free and open to the public.


In state news, The Raleigh News and Observer reported on Wednesday another beachfront house in the outer banks has collapsed into the rising sea levels eating away at North Carolina’s coast. The five bedroom rental home was built in 1980 and was vacant at the time of its collapse. Where there was once 300 feet of dunes between the cabins and high tide 20 years ago, today there remains only 48 feet of flat sand.


According to AP News, inflation levels in the US are higher than they have been for the past forty years. The Department of Labor reported the steepest year-over-year increase in consumer prices since February 1982. The inflation is caused in part by the effects of the pandemic, combined with shortages of supplies and workers, and the increased use of federal aid. Experts warn to expect inflation to remain high in the coming future.
