In local news, Ransom Pub and Event Venue will be closing February 18th. Ransom, which is located on King Street, announced in an Instagram post yesterday, February 6th, that they will be closing after 5 years of operation. According to the Watauga Democrat, South End Brewing Co. will be taking over the space and will be open in the spring or the summer.
In state news, construction around NoDa in Charlotte will begin, causing drivers and businesses to be impacted for months. According to WBTV, construction on a storm drainage improvement project will begin today, February 7th. The construction project, which will be located on North Davidson Street, between 27th and 28th streets, will be occurring in stages. This week, there will be only one lane of traffic followed by two months of full road closures. The project could possibly extend beyond this.
In international news, Turkey and Syria were hit with a 7.8-magnitude earthquake early Tuesday morning. According to the Associated Press, as of today, the death toll has increased to over 4,000 people. Thousands of buildings have been destroyed, with over 5,600 of those being in Turkey alone. Thousands of people were left homeless during the nights. According to the New York Times, a 7.5-magnitude aftershock hit, 9 hours after the initial earthquake.
