Appalachian State University was founded one-hundred twenty two years ago, marked by Founders Day, which held its 2021 celebration in Founders Plaza last Friday on the seventeenth. As The Appalachian states, the Bell Ringers Ceremony was held to induct those who have had an impact on App State’s history by allowing them to ring the bell in Founders Plaza. Also present were members of ClimACT who held a peaceful protest in the name of climate change awareness.


In local news, Watauga High School made the decision to cancel all plans regarding its October 2nd homecoming dance. According to the Watauga Democrat, this is the second year in a row that the dance needed to be canceled, as the worrying level of COVID-19 cases made school administrators wary. Principle Chris Blanton of Watauga High School stated that the current situation has made it difficult to find a comfortable in-between regarding social events while at the same time keeping tradition alive. While the decision has seen its share of criticism from students, the school will remain in its stance to cancel the event.


On September 14, Deadline reported that iconic comedian Norm Macdonald passed away at the age of sixty-one. A beloved member of SNL from 1993 to to 1998, Macdonald lent his talents to a long list of television and film projects including The Orville, Grown Ups, The Middle, The Drew Carey Show and many others, plus numerous appearances on Late Night with David Letterman and Conan. Deadline states that Macdonald had been in a long battle with cancer for nearly a decade.
