In North Carolina news, an 11-year-old girl was killed on Saturday after being hit by a truck during a Christmas Parade in Raleigh. According to ABC11, the incident happened shortly after 10 in the morning. 20-year-old Landon Christopher Glass said he was driving the truck when he lost control of the vehicle. Parade attendees said they heard Glass yelling out of his window that he was unable to stop. No other parade goers were injured. Glass is facing charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, improper equipment, unsafe movement and carrying a firearm in a parade. The parade was canceled in response to the incident.

In U.S. news, the man suspected of killing five and injuring others at a gay bar in Colorado Springs evaded the state’s red flag law a year prior to the shooting. According to the Associated Press, allegedly Anderson Lee Aldrich threatened his mother with a homemade bomb back in June 2021. Neighbors were forced to leave their homes while the bomb squad and negotiators talked him into surrendering. There is no record showing that police or relatives triggered Colorado’s red flag law which would have seized any weapons and ammunition that he possessed. Gun seizures from the red flag law can be in effect for 14 days or if a judge extends it in six month increments. Gun control advocates claim that Aldrich could have been slowed down or at least had his profile on police radar. Aldrich is facing murder and hate crime charges for the shooting.
