The hills are alive with the sound of folk music icon John McCutcheon. According to reports from the Watauga Democrat, McCutcheon will make his “highly anticipated debut” at the Appalachian Theater Friday, October 21 at 7:30 pm. This will be his first concert in the High Country in over five years.. The concert is part of the Mast General Store’s Americana Music Series on the Doc Watson stage at the Appalachian Theater. In North Carolina news, drivers in Davidson County experienced traffic this morning after a driver failed to make a proper left turn. According to reports from Fox 8, a 2007 Nissan was in the center lane of southbound I-85 when they abruptly stopped and attempted to make an improper left turn into an emergency access area in the median. When the car attempted to turn, another vehicle hit them before going off the road and hitting multiple trees. The driver of the 2007 Nissan left the scene of the crash and officers are currently looking for him.
In U.S. news, the Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez resigned from her post Monday after she was heard making racist remarks in a leaked recording. According to reports from the Associated Press, Martinez issued an apology and expressed shame adding “in the end, it is not my apologies that matter most; it will be the actions I take from this day forward.” Her statement did not state that she would be resigning her council seat. Martinez initially issued an apology after the Times published an article online. She was initially elected to the council in 2013 and became the council’s first Latina president in 2020.
