In local news, the Watauga Democrat reports that popular food truck mainstay Betty’s Biscuits will be retiring their wagon and moving into a brick-and-mortar establishment in downtown Boone, set to open this June. The new building will be located at 642 E King Street, and will come with a menu expansion, including bloody Marys and mimosas. Betty’s Biscuits is owned and operated by Tina Houston, who has big plans for the new space, including the potential for an open garden area for live music. “It feels like Betty’s has a lot of support,” Houston says. “It’s just gonna be a real bright and comfortable space that is welcoming of everyone and supportive of everything going on in town.” I, for one, cannot wait!

In state news, the Raleigh News & Observer reports that a North Carolina Walmart has an unusual mascot. In Havelock, NC, an alligator has been living in a small retention pond outside the supercenter for what some speculate could have been as long as eight years. Amid concerns from some patrons of the Walmart about their safety, locals have advocated for the alligator to stay, calling him either Ollie or Henry and citing the fact that he’s never been a trouble before. A biologist who visited the scene erred on the side of the advocates, saying they recommended the alligator remain where he is. Big love to Ollie’s friends and family in Havelock!

And at last, in national tidings, NPR reports that social media giant TikTok has set a new screentime limit for its teenage users. TikTok accounts under the age of 18 are now set at a 60-minute screentime limit per day, after which they must enter a password to continue using the app. The goal, TikTok says, is to spur young people to be more mindful about how much of their day they’re spending online, in an increased turn from the social media company towards increasing safety on their app.

Now for sports.

App State softball is off to a great start as well as they just received their 6th straight win against ETSU yesterday and improved to 9-3 on the season. They travel to Knoxville for a double header on Friday, first playing Belmont and then number 6th-ranked Tennessee.
