The charge against Derek Chauvin for the death of George Floyd was delayed due to an additional charge against Chauvin.
Thousands of protestors surrounded the courthouse where the trial was meant to take place to demand justice for George Floyd, a Black man killed by the white officer, Chauvin.
Chauvin’s lead lawyer, Eric Nelson told the court on March 8 that Chauvin plans to ask the Minnesota supreme court to overturn the order on March 12. The process could take weeks.
Chauvin, 44 is facing a second-degree murder charge where he could face a maximum of 40 years in prison. He denies the charges against him as the world is watching the trial unfold.
Updates are to come.
