Sports Update: Tottenham Hotspur Top of the Premier League again after 2-0 victory By: Alex Urquiza

José Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur earn a well deserved 2-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. In a game where Manchester City dominated possession, the Lilywhites were well organized defensively and attacked well on the counter, with Mourinho besting Guardiola once more.

José Mourinho continues to prove his critics wrong and has now managed to bring the Spurs to the top of the Premier League table. Star duo Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son continue to dominate the league with Son scoring within the first 5 minutes and Kane assisting Giovanni Lo Celso for the second goal. Son adds to his goal tally with nine goals in nine games, keeping pressure on the race for the golden boot. Kane also adds to his assist tally with nine in nine games. If he continues his form for the remainder season, Kane will be on par to break the record of 20 assists in a season, which is currently held by Thierry Henry. This would definitely rub salt on the wounds of rival Arsenal fans by overtaking their greatest ever player record. Tottenham is now undefeated in their last eight league games and can start considering themselves title challengers with the way the league is looking this season.

This wasn’t how Pep Guardiola was planning on celebrating his new two-year deal as Manchester City manager, losing 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. Manchester City is now 10th place in the league at the moment, making this Guardiola’s worst-ever start to a league season in his entire managerial career. By keeping star forwards Sergio Agüero and Raheem Sterling on the bench, with Agüero not even getting any game time, Pep’s starting lineup raised a few eyebrows. Although his side dominated the match with 66% possession time and 22 shots, compared to Tottenham’s four, the Citizens weren’t able to capitalize on any of their chances except for Aymeric Laporte’s goal in the 27th minute. This ended up being ruled out, however, after a Gabriel Jesus handball.

The Citizens will now have to focus on bouncing back on their Champions League fixture against Olympiacos, where a victory would guarantee qualification to the Round of 16. As for Tottenham, they will be looking to rub off their league form into the Europa League on Thursday, against Ludogorets Razgrad, in a tight group where three of the four teams in the group have six points. Their fans are desperate for any type of silverware and Mourinho will be looking towards winning this European competition to end their 12-year trophy drought.
