The Appalachian reports in local news that Johnny Bunton, an employee of Appalachian State for 18 years, has recently passed away due to health complications that arose after contracting COVID-19. Bunton was a part of the building service staff for the Plemmons Student Union and passed away on September 15th.


In state news, The Watauga Democrat writes that the former NFL players, Torry and Terrance Holt, have formed a construction company that will build the North Carolina Freedom Park in Raleigh, North Carolina. The $5.4 million project will admire the honors and contributions made by African Americans in North Carolina and is expected to be completely built by next year.


In national news, The Wall Street Journal reports that Facebook Inc. has announced that it will stall the development of the Instagram App that is being specifically engineered for the use of children. As concerns have been voiced about the negative effects of social media on the mental health of young people- Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, explained that the company is suspending its work so it can take notice of the worries that have been brought to light.
