The City of Raleigh has recently received $47.5 million in order to create a passenger rail service. The high-speed transportation will run from Raleigh, NC to Richmond, VA.
With this federal grant, NC will be able to purchase a state rail line from Raleigh to Ridgeway, VA close to the Virginia state line. The freight railroad will be CSX, and the grant was granted on Sept 18 whilst the senators of NC, Thom Tillis & Richard Burr as well as the VA Reps. David Price & G.K. Butterfield.
NC and VA have been planning for a connection such as this once since 1992, and they hope it will bring more tourism and attention to the two states.
