Kyle Larson dominates Coca-Cola 600, secures historic 269th win for Hendrick Motorsports

Kyle Larson led 327 laps in a near-flawless performance to win the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina on Sunday. The win is Larson's second of the season as well as his eighth career victory. The driver of the number 5 car joins Martin Truex Jr and teammate Alex Bowman as the third driver to have two wins in 2021.

Larson's win was particularly special for his hall-of-fame car owner Rick Hendrick. Hendrick Motorsports now has 269 total wins, passing Petty Enterprises to become the winningest organization in NASCAR history. Petty Enterprises previously held the record for 61 years.

All four of Hendrick Motorsports' drivers finished in the top five in the 600-mile race with Chase Elliott coming in second, William Byron fourth, and Alex Bowman fifth. Kyle Busch finished third for Joe Gibbs Racing. Austin Dillon, followed by Denny Hamlin, Chris Buescher, Tyler Reddick, and Kevin Harvick rounded out the top 10.

The first win for Hendrick Motorsports came in 1984 when Geoffrey Bodine scored the victory at Martinsville Speedway while driving, ironically enough, the number 5 car. Jeff Gordon holds the most wins for HMS with 93 in total while seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson comes in second on the list with 83 career wins.
