Bigfoots Weekend Recap

Ben Cole

The inaugural season of the Boone Bigfoots has been more than anyone could have hoped for. After starting off rocky, losing two of the first three games, the Foots kicked it into gear and are now first place in the Textile League at 16-5. They were heading into this past weekend on a 10 game win streak looking to keep their foots on the gas pedal.

Friday night the Bigfoots hosted and defeated the Carolina Disco Turkeys 5-4 at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium in Boone. The game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 8th inning when Chance Campbell plated the go ahead run on a groundout. The Disco Turkeys rallied in the 9th to score the tying run on a single. An error made by the Disco Turkey's left fielder in the bottom of the 9th allowed the Bigfoots' Logan Leax to score the game winning run.

Saturday was Cobra Kai night and the Bigfoots faced off against the Catawba Valley Stars. The Bigfoots had played the Stars four times already prior to Saturday, winning three of those meetings. The matchup resulted in a 2-2 unfinished tie due to inclement weather in the area. The game ended after the 2nd inning and will be rescheduled.

Following the unfinished game, the Bigfoots were heading into Sunday on an 11 game winning streak. They played the Highpoint HiToms, a team from the Coastal Plains League. It was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th inning when CJ Johnson hit a walkoff grand slam.

The Bigfoots are at home Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Smith Stadium in Boone.
