As early voting starts today, in local news, multiple places around Watauga County are voting locations during the early voting period. According to The Appalachian, the locations are as follows:

  • -Watauga County Administration Building

  • -Appalachian State’s Plemmons Student Union

  • -Blowing Rock Clubhouse Rotary Building

  • -Deep Gap Fire Department

  • -Meat Camp Fire Department

  • -Western Watauga Community Center

Dates and times for voting vary. These include:

  • -Oct. 20-21 from 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

  • -Oct. 24-28 from 8 a.m – 7:30 p.m.

  • -Oct. 31 – Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

  • -Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.


In state news, a traveling exhibit that honors Vietnam War veterans has come to North Carolina. According to WBTV, the exhibit is called The Wall That Heals. The wall displays the names of 58,000 members who died in the war. The exhibit will be located at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the next four days, until October 23rd for 24 hours each day. Admission is free.

In international news, the newest UK prime minister resigned. Liz Truss announced her resignation today according to ABC News. She became the prime minister on September 6th, meaning she served for six weeks. According to ABC News, she will be the shortest serving prime minister in modern political history.
