According to reports from the Watauga Democrat, the Boone Police Department is investigating a break-in and theft at Boone Drug that occurred on Thursday, January 27. According to police, the break-in happened at around three in the morning. According to a release from the BPD, surveillance cameras were able to capture three men entering the store wearing masks and dark clothing. Two men were caught by surveillance cameras stealing prescription medications from the pharmacy. According to law enforcement, the men left the store in a black Dodge Charger with a Virginia license plate and traveled south on N.C. 105.


According to the Associated Press, Joni Mitchell announced plans on Friday to remove her music from Spotify in solidarity with Neil Young. Young ignited the protest against the music streaming service for airing the Joe Rogan Experience podcast which had spread COVID-19 misinformation. Joe Rogan is one of Spotify’s biggest stars and has a contract that could earn him over 100 million dollars. Spotify announced that the app has policies in place to remove misleading and false information from its platform, having already removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. As of January 30, Spotify has not released a statement in regards to Mitchell’s departure from the platform.


In International news, the Associated Press reports that North Korea began testing their longest range missile since President Joe Biden took office on Sunday. According to Japanese and South Korean militaries, the missile was launched on a high trajectory and reached a maximum altitude of 2,000 kilometers and traveled 800 kilometers before landing in the ocean. According to AP, Sunday was North Korea’s seventh launch in January which sparked concerns from South Korea’s President who called for a National Security Council meeting in response. According to South Korea’s President, the latest launch violates the U.N. Security Council resolutions and posed a challenge to international efforts to denuclearize the Korean peninsula. North Korean officials have justified the recent activity as an exercise of self-defense.
