In campus news, The Appalachian reports that Appalachian State is currently facing staffing shortages, resulting in four campus dining locations having to remain closed until further notice. The restaurants affected include: Cascades Cafe in the Plemmons Student Union, both McAlister’s restaurants, and the Rise Market and Bakery at Leon Levine Hall. The North Carolina Department of Commerce claims, “this is the most difficult hiring environment in a generation or more.”
Nationally, The Wall Street Journal reports that New York City has begun requiring vaccination for both restaurant employees and customers. The city is enforcing that people age 12 and over have at least one vaccine shot to eat or drink indoors.
In World News, The New York Times journals that Albania has obligated to take in up to 4,000 Afghanistan refugees. Embracing more refugees than any other country, the 677 people who have arrived so far are taking shelter in luxury resorts on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. With a large majority witnessing intense devastation before their arrival, the luxurious accommodations combined with this trauma have left many uncomfortable with their current situation.
