Afternoon News Update, 11/2/20

In local news, Vice President Mike Pence visited the High Country yesterday, just two days before Election Day. The Appalachian reported that the vice president joined Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse, in attending service at Alliance Bible Fellowship Sunday. Local politicians like Virginia Foxx and Deanna Ballard joined the pair at the service.


In state news, North Carolina saw “unprecedented levels”of voting during the early voting period in the Tarheel State. The News & Observer reported that 4.5 million people have voted in North Carolina, which is more than 95% of all votes cast in 2016. Election Day is tomorrow, and the North Carolina State Board of Elections expects 97% of all votes to be tallied by Tuesday night.


In national news, President Donald Trump suggested that he would fire Anthony Fauci from the coronavirus task force if he won re-election. The New York Times reported that at a rally in Miami, the president responded to the crowd shouting “Fire Fauci.” Trump said,“Don’t tell anybody, but let me wait until a little a bit after the election. I appreciate the advice.”
