In local news, the Hospitality House recently reported nearly 30 COVID cases and has announced changes to their operational systems. According to the Watauga Democrat they announced on Facebook Tuesday that these changes would be effective immediately. Some of these changes include who is allowed inside the shelter buildings, donations being made outside the food pantry door or the outreach center, and masks are mandated once again.


In state news, the American Civil Liberties Union has decided to sue North Carolina over its harsher riot punishments. According to WRAL it is said that these fines and increased prison times will be implemented beginning in December of this year. The ACLU is arguing that the court is going against people’s right to free speech, assembly, and petitioning rights.


In national news, Representative Justin Jones was reinstated into the Tennessee House after republicans had removed him from his seat for protesting gun violence. According to the Associated Press the vote was unanimous towards reinstating Justin Jones just four days after he was expelled. Representative Justin Pearson, one of the two expelled Tennessee lawmakers, has also been reinstated as of Wednesday's county vote.
