In local news, The Watauga Democrat reports that the Watauga County Public Library has raised over $23,000 in endowment funds. $10,000 of that came from grants while the other $13,000 came from donations. The funds are used to help improve technology at the library, new children books, and a bilingual literacy program.


In state news, the News & Observer report that as of February 6th, North Carolina’s positivity rate for COVID-19 is 23.4%. Roughly 75% of adults have received at least one vaccine for the coronavirus. Health officials warn that the only way for the virus to stop spreading is for the positivity rate to reach below 5%.


In national news, WATE reports that Dollywood will be offering free college tuition and books to employees who want to seek higher education. Herschend Enterprises, who is a partner of Dollywood, included the free education program as part of their new GROW U initiative. Seasonal, part-time, and full-time employees are eligible for the program.
