In local news, the Watauga Economic Development was awarded a grant for a Boone and Blowing Rock corridor study. According to the Watauga Democrat, the grant will help fund a feasibility study to explore how the arts may be advanced along the US-321 corridor. The grant totaled to $5,000 and its main purpose is to study how the introduction of the arts between Watauga County’s two largest towns and how the introduction of the arts in the area can spur greater economic development.
In state news, Crews found the body of a teenager who went missing in Jordan Lake Thursday morning. According to WRAL, crews found Roberto Deleto’s body, the 15-year-old boy had been missing since Tuesday. The boy was operating a jet ski with a family member Tuesday evening when it had a mechanical issue. The family member rode for help and when he returned, Deleto was nowhere to be found.
In national news, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell suffered a concussion and will remain in the hospital for “a few days of observation and treatment.” According to NPR, McConnell had a fall at a super PAC event aligned with establishment republicans held in the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington, D.C.
