From around campus, App State Office of Diversity brings monthly read-alouds to lab schools. According to Appalachian Today, App State’s Office of Diversity has started to do monthly read-alouds with mini-Mountaineers at the university’s two lab schools in Walkertown and Elkin. The program features a different book each month. Selected readings include topics about Black history, disability awareness, military appreciation, among other insightful topics.


From around North Carolina, a charter bus hits and kills pedestrian in Dallas, NC. According to WCNC Charlotte, a pedestrian was hit and killed by a charter bus shortly after 9 PM on Saturday night. Ashley Garrison was crossing Highway 321, when she was hit by the bus. She was pronounced dead at the scene. There are currently no criminal charges, as this case is still under investigation.


From around the US, the FBI offers a $50,000 reward for the safe return of 4 US citizens who were kidnapped at gunpoint in Mexico. According to NBC News, 4 Americans were believed to be kidnaped in Mexico on Friday. The FBI has sent out a reward for $50,000 for the safe return of these citizens. The Americans crossed into Matamoros, Tamaulipas, in a white minivan with North Carolina plates on Friday. Shortly after crossing into Mexico, they were met with gunfire by unidentified shooters.


Now onto sports.


In local App State sports news, today the mountaineers Baseball team heads to Durham to take on the Duke Blue Devils at 4pm. This is coming off of a blowout loss to Gardner Webb on Sunday 6-19. The Mountaineers currently 8-2. Then tomorrow the softball team will play North Carolina here at home at 6pm. The softball team is currently having a solid year at 11-5 so far and trying to keep a 2 game win streak alive after winning both their games on Sunday against Jacksonville State and Belmont.

In national news Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano set the record for blocked shots on Sunday against the Seattle Kraken. The record was previously held by Kris Russell with the Calgary Flames. Giordano now holds the record with 2,045. The Saints and Derek Carr have agreed to a 150 million dollar four-year contract. Carr previously played with the Raiders but was released into free agency earlier this year. Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis states “Derek’s experience, leadership and skills will be an asset to our offense.”


According to Boonweather.com, it is going to be mostly cloudy with light AM showers. It's a high of 56 and a low of 29.
