In local news, The Appalachian reports that the town of Boone will be hosting its municipal general election on November 2nd. Early voting will run from October 14th through the 30th and absentee ballots have been available since October 3rd.


Occurring nationally, The Wall Street Journal reports that the Food and Drug Administration will soon approve for individuals to receive a COVID-19 booster shot that is different from their initial vaccine dose. It is expected that the confirmation will be made as soon as this week and that both the Johnson & Johnson and Moderna Inc. boosters will be approved this week as well.


In world news, The New York Times reports that the United States has a team of F.B.I. members working in Haiti to locate and recover a group of 17 kidnapped missionaries. The missing group includes five children and it is believed they were captured by the 400 Mawozo gang- a group that takes mass abductions, forcing family members of hostages to pay a ransom for their release.
