Mississippi Attorney General Calls on Supreme Court to Review Abortion Ban

By: Eris Lowdermilk

Mississippi attorney general suggests to the Supreme Court this past Thursday, Oct 22, to review the 15-week abortion ban. This request to the court was hours after the Senate Judiciary Committee approves Amy Coney Barrett.

The Attorney General Lynn Fitch of Mississippi poses the question of "whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional,". The case directly challenges Roe v. Wade. the 1973 Supreme Court case that nationally legalized abortion prior to around 24 weeks into a pregnancy.

Because the Mississippi law limits the ability of an abortion after 15 weeks, it is considered unconstitutional to the law. Mississippi is one of two states waiting for the Supreme Court to review cases related to abortion.
