In local news, The Appalachian reports that Former Chancellor John E. Thomas’ memorial service will be held on September 12th at Boone United Methodist Church. The former chancellor passed away on September 2nd at the age of 90. Thomas was chancellor of App State from 1979 to 1993. While chancellor, he established AppalCart and focused heavily on improving technology on campus.


In state news, CBS17 reports that Governor Roy Cooper has signed a bill called Restrict Certain Vehicle Modifications, which would ban the “Carolina Squat” modification on trucks. Pick-up trucks can no longer have the front raised, which some claimed was a dangerous modification due to the fact that the driver can’t see past the dashboard. The bill, signed last week, will go into effect December 1st.


In national news, Rolling Stones reports that Americana music star Jason Isbell and Dr. Anthony Fauci held an interview on September 2nd to help promote getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Isbell has been a huge proponent of Covid precautions such as having outdoor only shows and having proof of vaccinations before entering. The interview was intended to reassure those who are vaccine hesitant how safe the vaccine can be.
